Ladders

Ladders are a tool that we really need to complete a job at a certain height. People who have a height that is above average are generally easier to reach something. Ladders are not only used for household needs, but also for the needs of workers in several fields such as construction, telecommunications, warehousing and so on. There are various types of ladders that can be chosen according to their function or purpose. However, before we know the various types of ladders, it is better for us to know K3L first.

What is K3L ?

K3L (Occupational Safety, Health and Environment) is all activities to guarantee and protect the safety and health of workers through efforts to prevent work accidents and occupational diseases at work. It is very important for ladder users to pay attention to some K3L Tips that are very useful for Safety to avoid Accidents that can be fatal to the point of risking lives.

Things to watch out for :

Physical condition of the ladder user. Make sure in healthy condition.
The physical condition or purpose of using the ladder according to the location of the work point.
Clean your footwear from mud or dirt that could interfere with your feet before going up/down the stairs.
Do not exceed the recommended ladder load capacity (user load including work tools carried).
Be careful when in a location close to an electric current.
Be alert for ropes, electrical cables lying across or anything obstructing you when going up/down stairs.
Perform “Three Points of Contact” when going up or down, 2 feet and 1 hand, or 1 foot and 2 hands, every time (see figure 1).

Tips When Working with Ladders :

Use the type of ladder that suits the job.
Check the ladder every time it is used, whether there are any parts that are dislodged/lost/wobbling.
Set up the ladder on a firm, level surface.
Erect stairs with a horizontal and vertical support distance ratio of 1:3 to 1:4 (See Figure 2).
Make sure the bottom and top supports are strong enough and do not move.
If the ladder is equipped with a safety rope, tie the rope properly to the support.
